The upward movement in the share price has been going on for some time now and there has been no action to redeem the shorted shares.

This I find unusual as a lot of money can be lost here. I also have been considering the possibility you raise that the shorted shares may never be redeemed. Could this be done as an agreed prior arrangement between the parties or is the borrower of the shorted stock required by law to redeem on market?

To date there is no evidence that the upward share price movement has caused a spike in the numbe of shorted shares but I am keeping an eye on things.
