History does not indicate that ...companies that have initiated share buy backs tend to have a floor put under the price and the market tends to like share buybacks. Obviously reducing the number of shares in a company has merit. Also obviously the lower price does allows more shares to be purchased and retired. If the revenue/npat are not what the market expects , dividend and share buy back will make no difference.
