The Chinese have instituted extreme measures in their efforts to contain the virus with some of their main centres effectively shut down. These measures will be contributing to public fear worldwide, no doubt. Personally, I think good on them! I'd much rather they make every effort to clamp down on the spread of the virus, however inconvenient it may be in the short term.
From what I've read the Chinese have learned a thing or two since dealing with the SARS virus. I believe these strains of influenza also have severe respiratory problems associated with them. While potentially lethal, it looks as though this particular strain is less deadly than SARS or MERS - one hopes it stays that way.
