The main sales event for 11/11 and all the reporting around it definitely looks & feels a bit different this year due to the China tech crackdown.
Alibaba and affiliated news services are apparently afraid of flaunting huge sales data, they have made a concerted effort to appear humble etc. etc. So a lot of the hype has been put on mute and much of the coverage is whinging about this. Some of the rituals, like releasing the first 15 minutes sales figures etc. did not happen, which was apparently stunning to the media. It's quite interesting how fixated they are on brand rankings, sales data etc. like it is a sport.
Anyway, what actually happened is that overall Tmall 11/11 GMV grew, from 498 billion RMB last year to 540 billion RMB this year. They just aren't allowed to gloat about it...
Final sales rankings for infant formula should be out soon. I have seen some provisional rankings which seem to suggest a strong finish for A2M though.
