Not a pro here, but from memory we've seen these random drops and spikes a few times before. The consensus has generally been that they are inaccuracies resulting from delayed reporting of short positions by institutions. It's usually confirmed in the next trading day or two when it rebounds up to a similar level (i.e. the positions get reported).
