That was just based on eyeballing the overall volume, but seems consistent with the theory. Because of the limit on how much they can pay per share, the amount of shares they can purchase is somewhat related to the overall volume traded. At least they can't buy much on a low volume day.
They were able to purchase a much larger amount (1.5M) the day after results were reported, due to the higher volumes being traded.
