Synlait has gotten itself into the mess it is in through a series of very poor and expensive loss making investments.
I'm not sure who is seriously suggesting that Bright would want to see Synlait saddled with crippling debt and losing customers and farmers. There are far easier and less convoluted ways for them to own some manufacturing assets. Remember also that after 2027 (if Synlait survives that long), there's a distinct possibility that A2M won't need Synlait anymore.
A2 started diversifying away from Synlait already, which is another contributing factor to Synlait's current situation.

They can't say it won't have any effect because that's most likely not true. It will have an effect because the status quo cannot continue for much longer.
