the Chinese wealth is built on properties, nothing else. no one become millionaire working a day job. and rarely via running a business. the property crash has caused a lot of young people negative geared. they can't sell because no one buys these days, and they lose the jobs because companies are not making money, working class over 35 are being redundant and replaced by younger graduates.
young people see no hope and sees no point to work, not just china, this also happens in korea and Japan where the birth rate is very very low among all the countries.
Chinese governments try to stimulate property prices but no one is willing to buy anymore, they reduced the interest rate and it doesn't move a needle.
not to mention the stress kids have these days in studying, they are in school from 7am to 9pm with little lunch break, the younger generation sees no point at having kids because they see the kids these days are suffering, and all the hard work they put in in raising kids are just making minions for government. the childcare and kindergarten are closing down there and the obstetricians are not as busy as before.
you can ask any Chinese and I guarantee they will tell you the same thing.
