I would probably do the same in a similar scenario.
Say $60k profit sitting in 37.5% tax bracket - $22500 goes to Tax Office
Now $30K profit is $11250 in tax - you saved more than 10 grand.
If the profits come from stocks that have been held for more than 1 year - you still save 3 iPhoneXs 128GB.
I'm not a tax professional but this would be one of a few things coming to my mind by instinct, if I were in such a scenario.
