Just fyi, some instos have a suite of analysts that could/would calculate the S&P index themselves just like S&P themselves. If they did their homework, it would be a heads up to themselves. By my understanding, this would not be illegal. The formula is provided, they have access to the data, and they have a quant team of their own at their disposal.
