Having $5 millions put you at the top one percent in Australia. Currently, it just happens that I have exactly half of mine($1.6 million) invested in shares, the other half is the value of my house on on 2.3 acres next to a strip mall, which I only paid $360k in 2003. But my land doesn't generate income, so I looked for shares that generate income, in the form of franked and unfranked dividends, eg, NAB, SYD, IHD, VCX, JIN and CCV($80K a year when things mormalize again). I bought Z1P for growth(capital gain) next five years. As CoYS said, I have thought of getiing a few goats to keep the grass down but my property does not have a fence. I am just waiting for the council to rezone it to commercial land, then I can rent it to fast food joint to generate income. One of my mate at work owns a piece of land at an insection(as mine)in North Brisbane is letting it to Hungry Jack for $250K a year.
