...I'm not convinced that the highest volume day in almost 10 months constitutes a "low volume day"...

Of course charting isn't useful if you only look at one day in isolation you look at it over a period of time.

Tight bollies, large accumulation, low volume sideways movement, then a large breakout on the upside on very significant volume.

Just putting those indicators together ( without taking into account upcoming newsflow) suggests a bullish movement to me.

IMO.
