Ichimoku itself was created by a Japanese newspaper reporter known as Goichi Hosada in the 1950s, he created the technique via market data for a decade to derive his key indicators. It's interesting how history is a good indicator of how price action moves, as well as chart fractal patterns. Fascinating stuff Kind of off-topic - but a lot of people will ignore TA and focus on FA for making investment based decisions. I generally accept this view, but believe TA is important to get the best entry point possible it's mainly a tool, combine the two and you'll greatly increase your financial position and odds as well as better understand the crazy swings we go through periodically. It is the underlying principle, as to why you should hold through market turbulence if you don't understand the technical aspect but are very optimistic at the company's long term plan and leadership.

Just another thing with Ichimoku that @ProCapitalism may or may not have pointed out, as Ichimoku analysis is based on historic figures and lagging indicators, it will be exponentially less effective the less data available, so do not attempt using it on newer stocks.
