Seems MS Teams has issues emailing invites to some 3rd party email providers in my case iiNet, they get blocked at the server level as they are seen as spam. Various technical reasons as to why and how to fix but Microsoft don't even try and play with others they want everyone using their O365 email accounts. Anyway once I switched to one of my O365 accounts it worked fine. So I suggest to try using another email account.
