I read your post and though "this guy must be new" but then looked at your profile page and it says you've been here since 2008. Have you been living under a rock?
Algos are used for various reasons, in the case of ZNO you probably have a few different ones trading, a sell or distribution algo that is selling down large positions and potentially some vwap algos just trading around the trend. They are also used by retail traders these days, not just "the big boys"
