Because humans are not emotionlessly rational and are more complex than robots. We like to engage on multiple levels, not just the best and quickest way to make money.

If we were all emotionless and rational our productivity would go through the roof, our markets would not exist as everyone would agree on the same price. Most companies wouldn't exist as we would all use the same brand sanitiser, car, washing machine and clothes.

We would leave in a place similar to Soviet Union and China where conformity of behaviour and opinion is the most prized value.

One of the most fundamental human needs is to express oneself and be heard, whether it is through a forum like this, workplace, home or elsewhere.

Silencing others peaceful opinions instead of disagreeing with the them based on facts is a well worn path towards fascism, in the same way that enforcing one's opinion on others.
