It's not that I personally found the numbers surprising, it's that economists who forecast CPI had predicated 7.3% while the actuals came in at 7.5%.
On top of that, take a look at comments from Fed Reserve St Louis Pres James Bullard overnight. He wants rates a full percent higher by July. The market took notice.
