Hi Quatrojos
It would have been weird if I paid several bags to the government in Capital Gains tax (CGT). I bought my 6.6c BRN when it was not a ASX300 stock when I sell these is stock the revenue is subject to CGT tax. If I had sold the lot at 1.63 some of that CGT would have been charged at the top rate of income tax.
Now that would have been weird and foolish. I don't like donating money to the government.
I believe that eventually BRN, which I consider, is such a disruptor stock that it will in the long long term will be paying franked dividends that could easily be over a Disallowed annually on my buy-in price. I kept them for that reason. That also the reason I am trying to top up at low prices but in my super this time. With my super as I am over 60 I pay no CCT on profits.
With my investment strategy I have planted seed capital into many small species (non ASX300) with a view that 1 out of 4-5 could come good. BRN is just one of these that came good at 1.63. With sale of this small portion stock, after the CGT long term 50% discount, I was able to balance off the rest of the due CGT against 4 of these small species that were underwater and whose future was in more doubt than when I first got into them. So I rationalised them out of my portfolio and paid no CGT at all. The small sale easily generated the free carry and also added substantially to my risk invest pool.
I have managed to free carry a number of stocks, most of them don't require constant attention and provide little worry, even when they go up and down. I am focussed on BRN currently as I want them in my super, at the right price, for long term gains with no CGT applicable.
It would have been weird , not to do what I have done.
cheers Lies
