TR70/5610 should be declared a no go zone for any form of mining and held under the custody of the WA Minister for State Development for the next 99 years.
Excluding Mitchell Plateau, there should easily be ample bauxite reserves in the far north west to sustain a 4Mt pa alumina refinery for a minimum life of 60 years.
Pretty simple solution if you ask me - the MPJV have been pussy-footing around for decades, so force them to dissolve. The WA government should then give unprecedented support to Norsk/United who have achieved more in 6 months then the MPJV have in the past four decades.
The Norsk/United alumina refinery should also open its doors to other bauxite hopefuls in the far north west, the likes of Bauxite Resources and Pegmont Mines etc.
The other alternative is to substantially reduce the Mitchell Plateau TR by selecting a region(s) with the highest prospectively of bauxite married with the least environmentally sensitive area.
