Yes LK, I was taking into account what you posted and as Donnybrook rightly deduced its about the strategic placement and timing during the day. Hence the relevance of the shorting percentage against daily sales and the subtly of it. Note, short trades are delayed somewhat before retail can access the data in the current timeframe.

Fuhc46, shorting can assist those with more sophisticated means to hit stops of textbook examples which many use under the cloak of delayed shorting data. Hence why some traders buy on FA discount rather than trying to pick a bottom if they have a longer view of success. Of course the quality of management is the unpredictable element. The cumulative effect over time often shows up in the weekly chart. After the bell trades are another event to look for to get a handle on the strategies of various stakeholders. An analogy I can make is, travelling down a steep hill and dabbing the brakes before a tight corner to maintain control. Retail does not have access to the network of inside information.

All TA happens as a lag, so we have to rely on probability for success best indicated when a confluence of indicators occurs.

Retail traders tend to come in during a growth stage. Position traders tend to get set with large parcels during the accumulation stage which has passed. A consolidation phase is the next best scenario too get set. We seem to be entering one now, but lets wail a little while.

Now we are in May it may not be necessary for brokers to encourage shorting as supply tends to increase from May to June 30. If one has a longer view based on FA, then an opportunity will arise. However, who can predict what is happening in the world. Certainly blood in the streets.
