Yes, shorters SS & JPM do manipulate the SP, inflate and deflate, and yes, the are un control of the fluctuation, but fortunately not in control of the base price. So, if one (say, as a LTH) goes with fundamentals and does not play into their day-to-day games, it won't matter as much.
Good news is when the overall market is too volatile, thecregulators can be ban shorting across the entire market.
