Who are you referring to there? Stock charting and technical analysis wasn't invented by one person. Candlestick patterns originated with Japanese rice traders over 200 years ago.
Today however, I think the larger part of the value of charting indicators comes from the fact that everyone uses them... and so they become somewhat self-fulfilling. But of course all sorts of games take place based upon that.
