The cost of the software is usually a one off, a few hundred dollars or close to a thousand dollars. What is expensive is your choice of data, whether you want real time or EOD.
I had tried Incredible Chart before, but it didn't suit my needs as it lacked the flexibility in charting features that I wanted.
I have been using Metastock for a few years now, with EOD data.
