but from my point of view, had you averaged down at the start of the last spike in april 07 and sold the double top in sept 07, you would have mad all your losses back. the buy and sell indicators for both these moves is as simple as just the MACD on the weekly chart

hence charts CAN be an answer, if you chose to use them
