Mate few misconceptions in your statement, whether you go with options or stock or both is dependant on your risk profile, you cannot say one is better than the other.... they oppies valuation is linked to the main stock, they have an expiration and normally less liquid. I have both of them.
In regard of your tax comment I would suggest to obtain professional advise in this matter, non-residents are required to pay taxes provided the earnings are sourced from Australia. The rates for non-residents can be easily found in the ATO website and you can use double tax treaties depending on the coutry were you currently live.
