I think what makes this attractive to alot of gamers is the low cost of entry to play games

a full blown gaming rig can cost $1000s plus then having to buy games on top. A subscription set up with access to the latest graphics and games is very attractive to all those gamers living in mums basement!

just need a fast reliable internet connection and any one on the NBN knows this is not the case.
