ex dividend date = watch the SP drop as well. I'd hang back for this reason alone. With general nervous markets it may trigger a few panic stops if it breaches support nevermind attracting the hedge fund en masse shorting vultures.
You miss out on one dividend but because SP will recover from this artifical deflation + you own more shares (i.e. so more divvy in future), in long run buying on these dips is better than getting the one off extra divvy.
