LIT’s announcement regarding lithium ferro phosphate batteries that don’t use cobalt or nickel seems to suggest that their batteries are only servicing industrial scale energy storage systems. Hence there’s still presumably a big role for NCM batteries in other capacities. With artisanal DCR supply slowing due to low price ($26,000.00 US/t) the demand side will presumably increase (in the absence of a paradigm shift) and the price cycle will roll around again and head to the upside. Anyone heard of any entities doing ‘ethical’ cobalt supply agreements or is it all just talk and there are no signs of discontinuing exploitative DRC supply chains. Some DRC supply might be relatively more ethical than others, such as perhaps supply from Katanga by Glencore may be more ethical than artisanal supply, can anyone comment? Looking forward to the upcoming Sydney Benchmark Minerals conference.
