I spent 2 years and 38,000 towing a Suzuki behind a 28 ft motorhome around Australia , got back to Avalon Beach a year ago. I'm an old surfie , now an ocean swimmer , and seen perfect left handlers at the end of million hectare paddocks where your only company are great whites. I fished my way down the West Coast of Aus for 8 months and camped free most the time. its all a matter of priority really. I put my head down for 40 years and worked, then looked up and found myself financial enough to Be truly free again. Crazy eh, get out a your boardshorts to work for 40 years, just so you can retire back into your board shorts, but the paddling strength stuffed, So moral is I think, whilst no family burden, get as many surfs in as you can.
