Yep, recessions happen, buffet and munger have said themselves they don't time anything. Just look at the fundamentals and balance sheet of the stock. Yeh sure, it'd be nice to trade it or buy in low. Again, timing. However if you can't pick a good stock in the first place timing only goes so far. All the best to you if you can do both. These two blokes are some of the best in the business and timing is not a big factor of theirs. Keep that in mind.
