At best charting will give you a qualified expectation of the rate, duration, and extent of such a climb. This is based on assessing how the stock has behaved in response to 'comparable' news items in the past. Nobody is going to bid more than they need to to buy in. Nobody is going to say "Wow! This is IT! On this news this stock is going to be worth 10X its current SP a week from now." Most people will think that could be conceivable, some will think it is feasible, a few will think it is very likely, a handful will be racing to bid before the ink dries, and so on. Charting shows you how this news is likely to play out over time. Watch the charts and you won't be the guy that buys the most expensive offering on the list and then has to watch as the SP fall back by 90% of its new gains the next day.
