Well that's the start of a technical approach to the markets. Look for stocks exhibiting that behavior, workout where the trade would be wrong, workout where you would enter, calculate position size and stop scratching your head as to why fundamentals aren't being reflected in the current price. Apply this to a few different stocks if the market setup is there and let the edge play out. From there it's just simple statistics and developing your ideas and awareness.

Compression and expansion are a market phenomenon that has been around since markets began. Understand it and you can apply it many times in a year without needing to be sufficiently educated in the backdrop of a particular stock. Something doesn't work? who cares because there is always another trade.
