There are concepts / phenomenon that have repeated since markets began thousands of years ago that can be observed from the visual representation.
TA based traders take educated bets against these behavioral patterns (combined with indicators, or company fundamentals, or astrology etc) and use analysis to decide where the trade/bet would be wrong and close the position.
Stocks go up or down for reasons so complex it is impossible to know, but it is due to the sum of the decisions made by its participants all using their own logic (or lack there of).
