Something feels wrong about the current short numbers being reported. I don't have confidence in them. Prior to WBT entering the ASX 200, there were around 9 million shorts, steady over the 3 months prior (July-Sept 2023). Since we have now exited the ASX 200, I was expecting the shorting to revert to those levels, especially since the SP is now lower than it was then. But we still stuck around 13 million. Presumably, the index funds have recalled their shares from the shorters by now, and will have sold off some to balance their books.
