How many funds managed a 30% return in November? The 40c discount is only a problem for those investors still under water, so tantalisingly close for the SP recover IPO price for LSF. If it was good to hold this long, then being anchored to how close the SP is to the IPO price is not a sound basis for an investment decision.
For everyone else does it really matter if the discount sticks around 40c? Erasing the discount only adds 20% to the base (less tax when/if you sell)
Not convinced that timing the market is such a bad strategy. LSF is but one example of what goes wrong buying into an IPO.
Historically you would be ahead if you didn't buy into the market in October 1987, March 2000 or October 2007, or February 2020. The prospects for the market were not good at the end of 2019, and COVID just overcooked the cake. You had a good month of building tension before the markets started to slide in February to get out and there has been a 200% return since March, if only our crystal balls had been operating properly.
Be prepared for the next leg up when this block of SELL orders clears.
