Apart from taxation considerations the smaller stocks have less reliable technicals due to the lower liquidity. It is hard enough on large stocks. The larger the population the more reliable the result of a survey. Charting is statistical like surveys and fundamental analysis for that matter to some degree. They both break down with insufficient data, knowledge and human error. Fundamentals do override technicals when they are strong enough also.

Nothing is foolproof in trading or investing or everybody would be good at it. It is all about how flexible you are and how you manage your money and your emotions. It is about how well you understand the business of mining and balance sheets and the big picture - the "why" we are invested in gold int he first place and how we ended up investing in FML.
