Like you I have commented a number of times on the Magellan board. Reason is I can not believe the ignorance out there about the value active managers create. Spiveyas was a long only active fund manager for 40 years- working in London, Sydney, HK and Singapore. It is virtually impossible to outperform the index over long periods. Over short periods your style bias could mean outperformance but as soon as factor returns change so does the outperformance. Even if a fund manager does outperform you can only tell after the event. It is impossible to predict beforehand. Buy Magallan shares by all means as there are plenty of idiots sucked in by Hamish’s spiel but do not put any money in his funds
