A business friend just returned from Bali and was offerred pirated BB Tees from beach vendors for $2 each..What surprised him was they had the genuine BB pricing tags attached. Quality was the same Bangladedhi style from his local BB shop. Go figure that one.
The surf sports industry has ripped off the kids for years with exorbitant pricing. They all got greedier and greedier Silver and Bong went on a buying spree and copied each other with 600 stores each because they thought they would make even more money by wholesaling and retailing as well. Forget Bongs 11000 retailers who are battling to survive and dont need their supplier competing against them . Silver has 48000 retailers yet they barely manage $2billion in sales, ...do the math.
Opening up retail stores to make an implied extra profit is about as insane an idea as Arnotts biscuits buying 500 supermarkets so they will make more money and sell more packets of biscuits.
These products will become Target, KMart and $2 shop specials in time to come. The surf industry is not exempt from reality.
