I recently read that Xstrata hold 20% of Falconbridge and that the Inco/Falconbridge merger might have some hitches due to Xstrata's holding etc.
You are probably also aware that general talk (for some weeks now) is that Xstrata have been eyeing off Inco who's market cap is about the same as WMC's.

Falconbridge has interests in New Caledonia just as has Inco but these are not without some significant problems from the natives of N.C. and the land occupied in New Caledonia by these two mining houses is substantial on an island where land is at a premium.
I have been told that a news story on satellite T.V. in the last few days has carried a story that the mining minister of N.C. is visiting Toronto to have discussions in light of the possible merger between Inco and Falcon.

Make of it what you will but good old Kalgoorlie is looking most appealing.
