THE good news for Australian liquefied natural gas producers and developers is that Asian LNG demand is growing. The bad news is that Australia could be slipping down the international pecking order.

Wood Mackenzie, one of the world's leading oil and gas consultancies, warns that Australian LNG players must wake up to the very real threat of being undercut by a new, cheaper source of supply from North America.

The consultancy has been spreading the warning to investors during its just-completed annual tour through Asia and Australia in conjunction with Deutsche Bank.
