    Why take it over, if one is a competitor?
    They could just let it die, and maybe pick up a few pieces afterwards. It's dog eat out out there, or perhaps: dogs let other dogs starve.
    I suppose this is what we're paying our Glorious Leader/CEO to navigate.

    Just because we may have a better mousetrap, doesn't any mousetrap manufacturers want our mousetrap workshop, at any price.
    As Monty Python's French knights would say:
