Cycling has historically been extremely fast at apply high-tech to its sport. I recall how they swiftly started to make use of carbon fiber frames back in the 90s. Only more recently have automakers and airplane manufacturers started to do so.
In sum, cycling will likely be a precursor to other consumer goods.
