I read through pretty much all of that last night Dave (the case study) and a bit more to go as was down with folks last night & home late with a fatality on the road home.

That poor woman’s skin lesions were horrendous & I have dressed cutaneous lesions like these for many patients. The body dysmorphia is awful for them & sometimes the smell of fungating wounds & ulcers, but there are things that can be done for that aspect of personal care, & a lot of TLC & reassurance doing that…but they don’t heal because it’s not normal cells. They often don’t want to look at it themselves or let their family see, just medical & nursing staff as it’s distressing enough for the patient, let alone their family…the very ugly side of cancer.

I remember a long time ago a very young woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer during pregnancy & a resus on a chemo ward because she had so much to live for & (husband & baby) & fungating tumours on her chest developed. We were only student nurses at the time watching this resus, CPR & putting the paddles on with a Defib, you can imagine the outcome because where you put the pads is where all these lesions were, something that has stayed with me for life. It was so traumatic.

I cannot believe the change in the rash and healing of the cutaneous tumour/s after leaving the trial & commencing on another Immunotherapy. This is the kind of stuff you see in Palliative Care. There would be no case study published if COH didn’t think it was without influence from CF33.

I think that patients should be warned of pseudo progression, that results will take time, once they are off the trial they probably cannot just say, hang on a minute, can we get back on there? It doesn’t work that way. You really wonder how things would have panned out for this Lady had she remained on the trial?

Should be fully pre-framed that the ulcers are a destruction/ death of the living cancer and it should be welcomed.

I was wondering last night, if it can get to a point where a terminal patient could not have the immune system left to attack the cells in this fashion and or be able to heal the wounds and that could be life threatening. But there should be a larger mandate to try these therapies on patients when all other conventional medicines and therapies have failed.

An equally amazing and sad case study.
