That's one of the very first words I've learnt in English! My then English teacher lived just around the corner from me and we used to go window shopping in Melville Rd, Brunswick. We came across a shop that sold these articles with name HESTIA prominent. He asked me if knew what that meant and I, an enthusiastic student of Greek mythology, jumped at the opportunity of telling him all about the ancient goddess. He stopped my struggle with the English language quickly and abruptly. "Nah," he said, laughing and he gave the meaning of the acronym.
I began studying the language with more fervour since that moment! Coming from the strict, fascist-like discipline of Greece, I found this sort of liberalism very refreshing... until I saw him and most of the other teachers, belting the hell out of the students with the strap and the blackboard rulers. I wanted to go back home to Greece then.
