They have referred to it as a safety analysis, because NO ONE expects significant differences this early into the trial (less than a third of the way through). You might see a trend at this stage, but not significance. To know if you are seeing trends, you need to see the statistics. If the trends were all going the wrong way, you might take a punt the trial was going to be a dud, but only the safety monitoring board has seen the statistics (the trends). Also, because of the redactions, we don't even know whether enough time had passed after treatment on each patient to know if we should even expect to start to see an effect of the stem cells.
