Where there is smoke there is usually fire.
Think it all comes down to just a matter of $$ now.
Whether a deal will be done it remains to be seen. But I am told by some speculative types that if it comes to fruition, it "should" be out no later than Friday 23rd with the risk of it happening much sooner (whatever that means).
Some say the $2B 20% Chichester "rumour" floating about for some time was information "someone" leaked to market to test the water and bears no resemblence to the final deal.
Some speculate the Chinese may be acquiring a "strategic" stake so strategic in size that they may have gone to the "relevant authorities" as far back as "prior to June" to seek advice.
Some also say the Chinese are NOT just looking at acquiring a strategic stake in the mine and a % in the infrastructure, they in fact want a say in the scope and pace of future expansion.
It looks like if a deal is indeed struck, most of FMG's net debt would be wiped off overnight propelling the stock into investment grade territory.
May we live in interesting times.
