I don't think they need an asset sale and unless an asset sale substantially adds value to the business long term as opposed to getting a short term share price spike I don't think they'll do it. Their current position of being open to attractive offers works fine for them. An asset sale, if anything, would make me question the reliability of what the company has been saying about its costs and margin.
That said I don't think the share price rise is due to FMG management playing games, the market is getting itself exited imo. As it did, but to a greater extent, with Glencore.
