The Talbots and others invested money and took the risks to get the company to where it was up to the point of the tragic plane crash.

IMO, the Chinese have (well, lets call a spade a spade) MAY well have used political manipulation, enticements and some "other means - you figure that out" to neuter any competitors from realistically having a go at either a corporate level T.O or JV. Hint: Mining permit signed but not dated sitting in Biya's study desk draw.

This is not the 1960s. Companies like RIO, BHP, XTA, Anglo these days abide by international norms and the rule of law. They would never be able to go as far as what China does to have Biya acting as a puppet.

How African dictators have benefitted from Chinese hunger for their resources (at the detriment of the population) is well document. Just look them up.

IMO, George Jones has been outmaneouvered and deceived by the Chinese (I suspect the so called JV partners all along just played along to the same Chinese Song sheet) ostensibly to create a fascade of genuiene competition.
