I would have second thoughts about treason. Democracy is weakening and as the governments get ever more confident as rulers, treason can be used against anyone speaking out against them. It's already happening in many countries and it's sickening.
It should be used against our own politicians for acting on behalf of corporations and foreign interests instead of the electorate. Not as capital punishment just some time in jail and their special pensions for life poured back into the public purse.
