Careers seem to come before the raising of children these days, so it can't be easy for a generation who have had so much in the way of having every need met in their growing years without having to make any major contributions to the family income, if any.
My niece came for Christmas lunch, with her hubby and three small children. She hasn't actually done much in the way of paid employment in the last few years, although has returned to work 2 days a week very recently, following the birth of twins 12 months ago.
That said, she brought a nanny/babysitter on Christmas day, sends the older child to pre-school 3 days a week and the twins 4 days, as well as having a nanny for part of the week as well! She also has a cleaner and the house is small.
That said, she still finds it an effort.
I laugh to myself...what is it with this generation?
